Brief Introduction ofKunming Metallurgy College

　　Kunming Metallurgy College (KMC), founded in 1952, is a public-supported institute of higher learning established under the directives of the Chinese National Ministry of Education. It is also one of eight rated "excellent vocational colleges" by the same Ministry and one of the sixteen strategically exemplary Higher Vocational Colleges selected from the same level throughout the country. Furthermore, KMC is one of the Sino-Germany Higher Vocational Teachers＇Training centers in China, as well as the National Innovative Training Base for Higher Vocational Education nominated by the Chinese Inventors Association. It has become a pioneering higher vocational college in Yunnan.  The College is now the provincial base for cultivating highly skilled technicians and in implementing innovative and experimental reforms in higher vocational education.

　　The total teaching staff of the college has reached 900, among whom 300 hold professional technical titles as Associate Professors or Professors, 200 lecturers possess MA/MSC or higher degrees. Since 1999, more than 200 instructors have undertaken positions as chief or associate editors for several higher vocational textbooks and monographic books.

　　Some 300 of KMC's instructors have participated actively in various research projects including approximately 20 projects at Provincial-level quality. In addition, it has more than 100 teaching and research achievements from which some 20 professionals and researchers received commendations.

　　The College's curricula include some 60 higher vocational education majors including 9 on school-level construction, 3 on experiments in teaching reforms of Yunnan province sanctioned by the Ministry of Education, and one of which is rated at the State-excellence-level.

　　There are 12 faculties within KMC with approximately 10,000 undergraduate students. It is equipped with a modern library consisting of some 700,000 books and research papers. Its fixed assets are worth RMB ￥300 million. It has a first-class laboratory for electronic & electrical courses as well as a laboratory for advanced surveying & mapping courses. It has established cooperative arrangements with some 300 laboratories and training sites both within and outside of its campus.

　　The KMC has been honored with such prestigious titles such as the "National Vocational Education Advanced Unit", "National Advanced Unit for the Administrative Service", and "Yunnan Provincial Advanced Unit for cultivating Hi-technician Talent ". Even its president has been awarded "The Outstanding President in the Field of Vocational Education of China".

　　The KMC has become a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive higher vocational college with majors in the sciences, engineering, management, business and arts. In recent years, the graduate-employment scheme mode is a unique project to cultivate highly skilled technicians in China. One of the main characteristics of this mode is that students have been employed by the companies while studying at the College. 

　　Public survey on graduate-employment and pre-employment policy shows that the employability rate of KMC graduates exceeded 90% for four consecutive years. Our graduates have been employed by many highly reputable companies and enterprises such as the Hongta Group, Yunnan Metallurgical General Company, Haier Group, and the Fujian Sanan Group. Some of them even secured positions in Viet Nam and countries of Southeast Asia. Graduates from our college are working as technicians and leaders in all fields. According to statistics, about 20 people have been acting as high ranked leaders in government departments, more than 100 people have become the chiefs or managers in large enterprise groups.

　　Economic globalization must bring education to be globalized. The “go out” strategy, (which means Chinese culture and education will open to the foreign countries, especially to the countries of Southeast Asia), has become the national policy to fit the great development for all developing countries. Under this situation, our college is pleased to seize the opportunity to work hard together in “go out” strategy and offer good service for all overseas students.
